Curriculum Overview
We pride ourselves on having developed a curriculum which we feel offers outstanding opportunity and learning experiences for all of our pupils, both academically and personally, following consultation with all stakeholders. Our broad and balanced curriculum inspires pupils to learn. The range of subjects helps pupils acquire knowledge, understanding and skills in all aspects of their education.
We provide not only a good education but the right education for our pupils.
We have considered:
- The things we want our children to learn
- Experiences which we know are effective and engaging for children
- Experiences which we know will raise standards and lead to successful learners.
Our themes have been planned to:
- Excite/engage
- Challenge
- Inspire.
In this fast paced, ever changing world we aim to promote continuity and coherence, allowing children to move smoothly between phases of education, schools and work, providing a foundation for successful lifelong learning.
The aim of our whole school curriculum at Frances Olive Anderson C of E Primary is:
To establish an entitlement for all children, regardless of social background, culture, race, gender, differences in ability and disabilities, to develop and apply the knowledge, skills and understanding that will help them become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.
The objectives of our whole school curriculum at Frances Olive Anderson C of E Primary School are:
- to develop the child as a responsible and confident citizen who is equipped with the skills, knowledge and attitude to be succesful in our everchanging and diverse world.
- to develop the childas an individual who embraces challenge and makes the most of every opportunity to learn.
to develop the child as a life-long learner who has a broad range of knowledge and skills which enables the child - to suceed in life.
Our values of honesty, courage, friendship, respect and commitment to achieve underpin all we do at Frances Olive Anderson C of E Primary School and these are reflected in our INTENT for our whole curriculum.
The IMPLEMTATION of our curriulum explains how we are going to achieve the INTENT. For each subject area we have planned what key knowledge and skills each year group will acquire for each subject. This is then further broken down into what key skills the pupils will learn in each subject over the 7 years in primary education. This is all mapped out in a progressive manner - please see separate subject links for further detail.
For history, geography, design and technology we have created our own long term plans and medium term plans. For art and design we use United Curriculum. The projects are organised so that knowledge and skills are taught in a well-sequenced way. This allows the children to remember more, know more and be able to reason as they progress throughout each year group.
For science we follow the National Curriculum requirements using the PLAN Primary Science resources and we use the Teacher Assessment in Primary Science (TAPS) for working scientifically elements of the curriulum,
We follow the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for RE teaching and learning. Jigsaw PSHE is used for our PSHE and RSE curriculum learning and Charangua is the basis for our music curriculum. The Language Angels scheme is ised for Modern Foreign Language teaching and learning and we focus on French. Teaching Computing is our chosen scheme to support our computing curriculum.
